Postdoc in Applied Bioinformatics

Postdoctoral Scientist
for 3 years – salary range: EUR 42,444 – 44,712 (E13 TV-L HU)
Start date: as soon as possible

The multidisciplinary project investigates genetic and epigenetic effects on body composition traits in a mouse model for obesity using genomic, gene expression and physiological data.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be involved in, and take responsibility for, the successful running of the project from generating phenotype data and analysis of genomic and gene expression including next generation sequencing data. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to solving biological problems and have a desire to develop skills in new areas, and in building strong collaborations.

Requirements: The successful candidate should have a strong background in statistical methods and familiarity with bioinformatics tools and resources. Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics and genetics is a plus. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent degree) in a field such as computer science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, applied mathematics or in the animal breeding or biological sciences but with a strong quantitative background or a Masters degree and significant relevant experience. Experience with scientific programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python or R) is necessary. The successful candidate will be highly organized with attention to detail and should ideally have a record of publications and presentations.
